Beyond Chatbots: Designing AI-Native Frontend Experiences for Enterprise Applications
Abstract
AI is changing more than backend systems; it is reshaping how frontend applications are designed and built, and the frontend consequences have had far less attention than the infrastructure ones. This paper examines the engineering patterns, architectural decisions and production lessons behind building AI-native user experiences, covering streaming responses, state management, trust, accessibility, performance and human-in-the-loop workflows. The scope is deliberately wider than the chatbot, which is the interface AI is usually assumed to require and is rarely the right one for an enterprise application. Streaming and uncertainty change what state management has to handle; trust and accessibility change what the interface has to show and when; human-in-the-loop changes where the user sits in the flow rather than at the end of it. Readers take away engineering patterns for building AI-native frontends that are trustworthy, scalable, accessible and responsive in enterprise environments.
