Delivering a $40M Global IT Infrastructure Rollout: Lessons from 511 Retail Stores Across Europe and Asia
Abstract
This paper sets out lessons from delivering a global IT infrastructure rollout valued at $40M across 511 retail stores in Europe and Asia, with the constraint that the stores kept trading throughout. It covers leading infrastructure modernization without disrupting business operations, sustaining resilient IT service delivery while the underlying infrastructure is being replaced, and keeping a store estate of that size connected during an enterprise network transformation. The material is programme engineering rather than technology selection: how to plan and execute large-scale rollouts across multiple countries, coordinate cross-functional teams, vendors and business stakeholders, and minimize disruption during deployment. It also addresses the management of risk, dependency and escalation, and the role governance, communication and executive reporting play in keeping a complex programme on track, which in a rollout of this size determines the outcome more reliably than any individual technical decision. Readers take away practices that transfer to any multi-country deployment of comparable scale.
